A function is a special kind of relation between two sets: the domain and the range. It pairs each element from the domain (the set of all possible inputs) with exactly one element in the range (the set of all possible outputs).

Example

Consider the function f(x)=2x+3:

  • Domain: All real numbers (since you can put any real number into this function).
  • Range: All real numbers (since the function outputs every real number depending on ).

If you input x=4: f(4)=2(4)+3=8+3=11

So, f(4)=11. This means when the input is 4, the output is 11.

Functions are fundamental in mathematics because they describe relationships between variables and are used extensively in algebra, calculus, and other branches of mathematics.
