Discovery

• In ancient times of Civil Engineering have discovered between 4000 and 2000 BC in Ancient Egypt, the Indus Valley civilization and Mesopotamia.
• Humans began to move away from a nomadic lifestyle and build permanent structures.
• During this time, transportation became increasingly important leading to the development of the wheel and sailing.
• This led to the development of construction, as a result of their trial and error. It distinguished good designs and products from less effective approaches.
• In ancient times, the term “Civil Engineering” was not commonly used until 18th century.
• The bridge, waterways and machines of war were all projects undertaken by the military engineer.
• Later on the civil and military engineers were grouped as one because the techniques of designing in military construction projects were similar to the civil construction projects.
